We are delighted to welcome Dr Jarrett Blaustein back to the University of Edinburgh. Dr Blaustein an alumnus of the School, who completed his PhD here in 2013, returns as a Visiting Fellow of the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI), from April to June 2026.

Dr Blaustein is an Associate Professor and Director of Education in the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) in the College of Asia and the Pacific at the Australian National University. His research examines how and why societies govern and deliver security during, or in anticipation of, complex crises, with pioneering work on how different policing actors, traditions and networks are adapting to risks and hazards linked with climate change.

During his visit, Dr Blaustein will be working with the EFI's Scottish Prevention Hub - a co-directed national partnership between Public Health Scotland, Police Scotland, and the Edinburgh Futures Institute, which aims to take a whole-system public health approach to primary prevention and support the reduction of health and wellbeing inequalities in Scotland. His work will focus on adaptive policing and partnership working, themes that connect directly with the Hub's mission to bring together research, policy, evidence and practice.

Dr Blaustein’s visit has been sponsored by Alistair Henry (Edinburgh Law School) and Juliane Kloess (School of Psychology and Neuroscience).

Throughout his time in Edinburgh, Jarrett will be meeting with postgraduate students in Edinburgh Law School and engaging with the Scottish Institute for Policing Research.
