Thu 24 November 2016

Academic appeared as a witness before the Europe and External Relations Committee

Dr. Gracia Marín Durán recently appeared as a witness before the Europe and External Relations Committee of the Scottish Parliament to give evidence on the implications of the EU referendum for the UK’s legal position in the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The evidence focused on clarifying what are –and are not– the legal issues for the UK’s continued membership of the WTO in a (possible) post-Brexit scenario, and how much of this would depend on the UK’s future trade relationship with the EU. The evidence forms part of the Committee’s inquiry on the EU Referendum and its Implications for Scotland.

Dr. Marín Durán appeared before the Committee as the main WTO law expert and alongside Professor Stephen Woolcock (London School of Economics), Professor Ian Wooton (University of Strathclyde) and Dr. Matias Margulis (University of Stirling), who provided evidence from an international trade theory and international political economy perspectives.
