Dr Gemma Flynn embarks on lecture tour of Northwestern, UIC, Harvard

Edinburgh Law School’s Dr Gemma Flynn, Teaching Fellow in Criminology, has begun a series of guest lectures in the US wiGemma Flynn Punishment & Spectacleth an event at Northwestern University on Monday 8th April 2019.

Dr Flynn spoke on the subject of comparative criminal justice issues between the US and UK, along with lawyers from television series ‘Making a Murderer’.

This is the first of three appearances Dr Flynn will be making at universities in the US, to be followed by University of Illinois, Chicago, on Wednesday 10th April where she will deliver a lecture entitled ‘Punishment and Spectacle: Kim, Kanye and the Role of Celebrity in Ending Mass Incarceration’, and Harvard University, Cambridge, on Thursday 11th April, giving the lecture ‘My Beautiful, Dark Twisted Fantasy: The Rise and Fall of Kanye West’.

Dr Flynn will also be making an upcoming guest appearance on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Woman’s Hour’, talking about gender and true crime.
