Dr Gavin Sullivan has been appointed co-Editor-in-Chief of the leading Cambridge University Press (CUP) journal, the International Journal of Law in Context (IJLC). IJLC is one of the leading journals for interdisciplinary and international sociolegal scholarship. It was first created in 2005 with the late Professor William Twining appointed as the journal’s founding editor.
IJLC is motivated by the idea of examining law in action and in relation to its broader social, political and economic context. It is closely connected to CUP’s 'Law in Context' book series, which has been publishing groundbreaking interdisciplinary legal scholarship since 1970.
Dr Sullivan said: "The IJLC has been pushing the boundaries of interdisciplinary sociolegal scholarship for more than 20 years. I’m honoured to join the IJLC editorial team at this critical time – as legal and regulatory systems are being challenged and reconfigured by far-reaching social, geopolitical and technological shifts and when international divisions are expanding. The need for critical interdisciplinary legal scholarship has never been more urgent."
Dr Gavin Sullivan is a Reader in International Human Rights Law at Edinburgh Law School and sociolegal law and technology scholar. He currently leads the interdisciplinary UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship research project, 'Infra-Legalities: Global Security Infrastructures, AI and International Law'.
