Dr Arianna Andreangeli to give evidence to Scottish Parliament's European and external affairs committee

Fri 21 November 2014

Dr Arianna Andreangeli has been invited to give evidence to the Scottish Parliament's European and external affairs committee on the impact of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership on Scotland on 27th November.

The Committee has agreed to undertake some inquiry work on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the potential opportunities and risks that it presents for Scotland. The Committee has agreed in the first instance to hold two round table evidence sessions at its meetings on 27 November and 11 December to hear the views of stakeholders’ on the relative opportunities and risks that an EU-US trade agreement could have in Scotland across key devolved areas. The focus of this inquiry work will be on providing an open forum for stakeholders to discuss their views on the opportunities and risks relating to the outcome of the TTIP discussions.

Dr Andreangeli's contribution will concern mainly the question of whether, and to what extent, the TTIP will have an impact on Scotland's ability to determine how certain public services are delivered.

The inquiry was agreed due to a number of groups who raised concerns about the possible implications of any transatlantic trade agreement for Scotland, in particular in relation to the devolved policy areas of health (the NHS), education (further and higher education institutes) agriculture, the environment and climate change, over the summer of 2014.
