Dr Annie Sorbie chairs the prestigious Professional Health and Social Care Regulatory Event

Wed 4 December 2024

Dr Annie Sorbie

Dr Annie Sorbie was recently invited by the Scottish Government to Chair the biannual Professional Health and Social Care Regulatory Event 2024, on the theme of ‘The Role of Regulation in the Workforce of the Future’, held in Glasgow on 6 November 2024.

This is a unique and prestigious event in the professional regulatory diary, jointly hosted by the Scottish Government and ten statutory professional regulators of health and social care professionals (across the UK). Dr Sorbie opened the event and introduced speeches by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray MSP, and Lady Helena Kennedy LT KC.

The event provided an opportunity for practitioners, policy-makers and other stakeholders across health and social care to network and share good practices around current challenges and opportunities in professional regulation, and to reflect on the role of regulation in the future workforce. This is an important topic because the need to recruit and retain our health and social care workforce is a pressing challenge, not only for the four countries of the UK but also internationally. Consideration of the workforce of the future required engagement with matters as diverse as professional education and recruitment, multi-disciplinary working, upstream regulation and regulatory reform - sessions were delivered that touched on all of these important topics and much more.
