Dr Ana Maria Daza Vargas shortlisted for EUSA Teacher of the Year

Edinburgh Law School's Dr Ana Maria Daza Vargas was shortlisted for the CHASS Teacher of the Year award at the Edinburgh University Students' Association (EUSA) Teaching Awards 2026.
The EUSA Teaching Awards recognise the educators who make the greatest impact on student life at the University of Edinburgh. This year, four individuals were shortlisted among 800 nominations for this category, making Dr Daza Vargas's shortlist place a meaningful testament to the impression she has made on her students.
Dr Daza Vargas is Senior Lecturer in International Law and Programme Director for the LLM in International Economic Law at Edinburgh Law School. She teaches across the International Economic Law programme, including courses in International Investment Law, International Investment Arbitration, WTO Law and Public International Law. She has been recently elected as Co-Chair of the Academic Forum for UNCITRAL Working Group III, negotiating Investor State Dispute Settlement Reform.
Dr Daza Vargas said: ‘We need safe spaces, away from the pressures that young people endure in this fast and competitive world. Our classrooms should be those spaces, where learning is enjoyable and opinions can be expressed freely without judgement.’
