Digital Catapult, the British government innovation agency for the digital and software industry, won an award for "Outstanding Achievement in the field of AI ethics” in this year’s CogX Awards.

CogX is a festival of AI and emerging technologies.

Edinburgh Law School's SCRIPT Centre has a long history of contributing to the ethics work of the Digital Catapult. Professor Burkhard Schafer is member of the Ethics committee of the Machine Intelligence Garage of the Digital Catapult, and co-author of its Ethics Framework. Over the last year, SCRIPT contributed through the Catapult to individual mentoring sessions on digital ethics for 6 startup companies, and hosted a seminar on digital ethics for start-ups in the creative industries. This year, collaboration between the Digital Catapult and SCRIPT on AI ethics will be further deepened through the DeCaDe project, the Centre for the Decentralised Digital Economy, where they will work together on new ethics guidelines specifically tailored to issues created by blockchain and similar decentralised technologies.
