Career Development Scholarships Awardees 2022-23

The Career Development Scholarships is possible thanks to a generous supported of alumni. The designated purpose of the scholarships is to assist current Edinburgh Law School students on their path to achieving their career goals.

Below is the list of the recipients of the 2022-23 Career Development Scholarships:

The exposure to high-stake cases, interactions with legal stalwarts, and comprehensive understanding of the judicial process have equipped me with skills and knowledge that transcend textbooks. To future applicants, I urge you to seize opportunities like these, for they hold the potential to shape not only your career but also your understanding of the world around you.

While these activities may not seem relevant to many legal careers, these are both activities that have a great relevance to my career development so regardless of their non-standard nature, are within the ambit of the Scholarship. I would like to thank the law school for their financial support this summer. My activities would not have been possible without the funding which enabled me to learn and experience so much. This summer as been very valuable for my personal and professional development.

I have developed my cultural, social, and communication skills significantly. I interacted with a range of practitioners, academics, judges and students from all across the world… As communication is an essential skill for any lawyer, it was invaluable to develop my conversational and communication skills even further.

A pivotal highlight was the invaluable opportunity to collaborate with seasoned legal professionals, gaining insights that are otherwise beyond the realms of theoretical learning…This hands-on engagement facilitated a profound shift in my perspective toward commercial litigation, fostering a newfound enthusiasm for its multifaceted challenges.

The skills I have developed have been invaluable; for example, I have developed my understanding and evaluative skills through the study of comparative law. It has been an excellent experience collaborating with fellow colleagues and students oversea. This has allowed me to develop my interpersonal skills which is crucial for communicating effectively and I can use all of these skills to further develop my professional as well as personal life.

This shaped my perspective on how my legal research can feed into ongoing legal developments in private international law on an intergovernmental level as well as the gap in laws in third world countries with respect to international trade that could be filled through smart contracts. In terms of its impact on my career, firstly, this experience has concretized my plan to pursue a PhD…
