Applications open to PeaceRep's newly launched courses
Mon 30 September 2024
Following the success of PeaceRep’s inaugural short course, Gender and Peace Processes in a Changing World, they are excited to expand their offering of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses, with two new six-week online courses (including a pre-learning week) for peacebuilding professionals.
Led by PeaceRep Postdoctoral Research Fellow Juline Beaujouan, the courses offer an overview of the latest developments in conflict transitions in the EMR, as well as practical skills for professionals working in violent contexts.
Juline is a leading expert in Peace and Conflict Studies, with over eight years of experience across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Her work emphasizes collaborative and responsible research, blending academic knowledge with evidence-based policymaking and community engagement.
Conflict Transitions in the Eastern Mediterranean Region
Since the Cold War, the EMR has witnessed a series of intrastate wars that are among the most prolonged conflicts in the world. As of 2023, there were ten states with active armed conflicts in the region. The failure of conflict resolution and the transition process in the region calls for new and critical approaches.
Drawing on examples from Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, South Sudan, and Syria, the new short course introduces peacebuilding professionals to the core issues at play in the EMR, including how to navigate key debates in a rapidly changing field. The course will begin on 06 January 2025, with applications closing on 31 October 2024.
Skills-building for Working in Conflict Transitions
Working in conflict requires a set of specific skills which few new professionals have. Designed by Juline Beaujouan in collaboration with peace practitioners, this course goes beyond theoretical knowledge, providing participants with a basic “toolbox” of practical skills and strategies to deal with the challenges of working in violent environments.
The course content draws on established research and expertise from the PeaceRep programme, incorporating the latest developments in the peace and conflict field, such as the multiplication of non-state actors and emergence of new technologies. Beginning in February 2025, applications for this course will close on 30 November 2024.
