Spatial Framings of Duties and Rights in ECtHR Case Law

Dr. Esra Demir-Gürsel, Senior Researcher at the Hertie School, will be giving a presentation titled Spatial Framings of Duties and Rights in ECtHR Case Law. The talk explores how the European Court of Human Rights, despite the Convention’s minimal reference to duties, interprets individuals as both rights-holders and duty-bearers. Dr. Demir-Gürsel examines how these roles are constructed across different strands of the Court’s jurisprudence and how both rights and duties are framed within national and European spatial contexts.
