Abstract
This year marks the centenary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919, which enabled women to enter the legal professions. The Edinburgh Foundation for Women in Law warmly invites you to attend a lecture delivered by The Hon Lady Wolffe on ‘The First 100 years of Women in Law’.
Biography
The Hon Lady Wolffe (Sarah Poyntell LaBudde Wolffe QC) was appointed as a Senator of the College of Justice in 2014.
She was educated at Dartmouth College (BA, Summa cum Laude; Phi Beta Kappa), the University of Edinburgh (graduate LL.B with Distinction and joint recipient of the John Hastie Scholarship) as well as undertaking post-graduate studies at Balliol College, Oxford. She called to the bar in 1994; she took silk in 2008 and practised principally in commercial and public law. She is a trained mediator and was on the Faculty’s Alternative Dispute Resolution panel of accredited Counsel.
She is the first woman to be appointed as a Commercial Judge (2016 to 2017; and from August 2018).
