Please join us for events marking the close of the Reversing the Gaze project at Edinburgh Law School, led by Dr Deval Desai and funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation’s Sinergia consortium programme. 

The project has explored the general theme of building legal and political theory from the Global South. It has developed state and constitutional theory from India, focusing on under-taxation and under-spending; explored the purchase of this theory in the contexts of the EU and Italy; reflected on the methodological promises and pitfalls of theorising from the Global South to the Global North in this way; and studied specific colonial contexts that continue to shape how universities generate and circulate this sort of mid-level theory.

Across two days, three public launch events of forthcoming books and series connect the project’s work to wider questions on legal theory and the Global South.

Day 2 - 11 September

Book Series Launch - Cambridge Elements in Legal Theory and the Global South

MacLaren Stuart Room, Old College

The launch of a new Cambridge University Press Elements series, Legal Theory and the Global South, which welcomes research grounded in, or meaningfully engaged with the Global South and offering a distinctive legal-theoretical intervention. The session includes a Q&A with the series editors.

Lunch will be served at MacLaren Stuart Room, Old College 12:30 - 13:30.
