Abstract

Speaker Gabriel Aguiar is a biologist, and the city councillor of Fortaleza, Ceará. His state, city, and region are historically marked by environmental displacement, multiannual droughts affecting the lives of many communities, and the exploitation and degradation of natural resources. In the past eight years, he has been at the forefront of environmental protection in his state. Among his many activities, Gabriel Aguiar is the Vice President of the Urban Policy and environment Committee of the Municipality Chamber of Fortaleza, works on Environmental Management Projects in conservation and research units on Faunistic Ecology Conservation, and is the Counsel of the Conservation Unit ‘Parque Estadual do Cocó’. In his talk, Gabriel Aguiar will share his experience in these various capacities, and present a current project for the protection of the Ecological corridor of the Sabiaguaba Dunes, an ecosystem in the city of Fortaleza protective of the hydric cycle in the region against the impacts of saline intrusion.
