'It’s hard to think without your pants on': epistemic injustice in healthcare

Professor Havi Carel, Department of Philosophy, University of Bristol

The Mason Institute is delighted to welcome Havi Carel, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Bristol, to lead our inaugural virtual lunchtime seminar.

Professor Carel’s research examines the experiences of illness and of receiving healthcare. She is has published widely on topics including the embodied experience of illness, wellbeing within illness, and patient-clinician communication. Her monograph, Phenomenology of Illness, was published by Oxford University Press in 2016, and her earlier book, Illness, was shortlisted for the Wellcome Trust Book Prize. She currently holds a Senior Investigator Award from the Wellcome Trust for a five year project entitled Life of Breath.

Please note that this seminar will be hosted on Blackboard Collaborate. Instructions for joining the seminar will follow nearer the date. Professor Carel will present her paper for the first half of the seminar, there will then be a short comment from our respondent, followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion among all participants for the remainder of the time. We do hope that you will be able to join us. Registration is important so we can send you a link to the on-line session once it is available.
