Guest Speaker Paul Reid KC
Join the Mason Institute for a lunchtime seminar examining how the Court of Session has exercised its parens patriae jurisdiction to authorise (or withdraw) medical interventions on behalf of persons lacking capacity (including minors) in disputed medical decisions.
We are delighted to welcome Paul Reid KC, senior counsel at Ampersand Advocates and a part-time Sheriff. An Edinburgh Law School alumnus and Honorary Teaching Fellow, Paul regularly advises and represents NHS bodies in Scotland on clinical negligence, public law and medico-legal issues. His experience includes representing a health board in recent Court of Session proceedings seeking authorisation to administer blood transfusions to a child, where clinically necessary, despite her capacious refusal on religious grounds.
