Excellence in the legal profession demands not only mastering technical skills and acquiring legal knowledge, but also the development of a certain sort of character. The Law, Character and Leadership Program aims to provide an opportunity for students to reflect upon the kind of person that a successful legal practice requires and the kind of people they hope to become by engaging in this practice in the future. Through talks by guest speakers, structured peer discussions with facilitators, spaces for reflection, group activities, hands on learning, and focused roundtables with legal practitioners, the program aims to foster the traits of character needed to lead with purpose in the legal sector.
This program is directed primarily to Honors students and LLM students, but all students are eligible to apply. The deadline to apply for the 2026-27 program is October 7th, 2026. Students will receive a certificate upon completion of the program. Please see below for the application form and email completed applications to amalia.amaya@ed.ac.uk. If you have any questions, please contact amalia.amaya@ed.ac.uk. Very much looking forward to welcoming the 2027 Law, Character and Leadership cohort!
