Incorporating Feminist and Critical Judgments into Legal and Socio-Legal Research
Location:
Moot Court Room,
Old College
Date/time
Fri 26 May 2023
12:00 - 14:00
In this workshop, we consider some of the ways to integrate critical perspectives on judging into our legal and socio-legal research. We focus particularly on the importance of being sensitive to judicial voice and self-identification, and the contingency of judicial decision-making.
We discuss critical perspectives as a methodology/method and an epistemological challenge to traditional models of objective, impartial legal legal interpretation and reasoning.
Presenters: Professor Gabrielle Appleby, MacCormick Fellow, Edinburgh Law School and UNSW Professor Gabrielle Appleby (unsw.edu.au) and Professor Sharon Cowan, Professor of Feminist and Queer Legal Studies, Edinburgh Law School.
This event is in-person only and it is meant for PhD and Masters students.
