About the seminar
The Advisory Opinion was handed down last month and will be discussed in detail by Dr. Laura Jeffery, who will help us understand the potential implications of the Advisory Opinion for the displaced, dispersed and extended Chagossian community.
This event will include an opening talk by the speaker, followed by a discussion led by Professor Nehal Bhuta and Dr. Michelle Burgis-Kasthala from the University of Edinburgh’s Law School, on the legal implications of the Advisory Opinion.
About the speaker
Dr. Laura Jeffery is a Senior Lecturer in Social Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh. She specializes in forced displacement, intangible cultural heritage and other aspects of forced migration studies. Her most recent project with CHAGOS: Cultural Heritage Across Generations builds upon her long-standing engagement with the Chagossian community and their history of forced displacement from the Chagos Archipelago.
