One thing law students tell us often is they don’t make enough time for non-legal reading, so we're giving everyone permission for some 'Shelf Indulgence.'

The EFWiL Shelf Indulgence Book Club brings together legal professionals with current Edinburgh Law School staff and students to read three books together between January and April 2025. The first book we will read is Unwell Women: A Journey Through Medicine and Myth in a Man-Made World by Elinor Cleghorn. For our subsequent reads, we will take a look at your sign up suggestions and let you guide our direction.

These books are funded by the Edinburgh Foundation for Women in Law (EFWiL) and you will receive a free copy (paperback or eBook) of each book that we read. The discussions will be in-person and online, with a joining link being shared closer to the time.

The dates of our hybrid book discussions are:

  • Thursday, 23 January 2025 1:00pm - 2:00pm
  • Thursday, 20 March 2025 1:00pm - 2:00pm
  • Thursday, 24 April 2025 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Please note: You must sign-up using your university or organisation email address. Places in the club are limited and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Places will be communicated once registration closes on 9 December 2024. E-books will be provided for those who live outside of the UK.

If we are over-subscribed we will prioritise those who consider themselves to be widening participation students. We define this fairly broadly, so if you’re not sure if you fit the criteria listed under ‘WP Individuals’ then just get in touch and we can advise.
