A summary of the Law Society of Scotland’s Profile of the Profession [external site] concluded there has been good progress in key areas within the legal profession, including retention, earnings and levels of discrimination. Yet, there is still widespread concerns about equitable progression and there is still the existence of a gender pay gap, with 61% of males who qualified six to ten years ago earning £60k+, as opposed to 35% of females.

One year on since the survey closed, the Edinburgh Foundation for Women in Law will convene a panel to discuss their thoughts on the latest Profile of the Profession, what has been done so far, and what is means for the future of the profession.

Conducted every five years, the Profile of the Profession examines equality, diversity and inclusion issues across the profession and gives a unique, in-depth view of the make-up of the profession and the experiences of the law profession. The results of the research directly inform the Society's policy work and how they support members.
