Edinburgh Science Festival: Identity by Algorithm
Location:
The Bayes Centre
Date/time
Wed 3 April 2024
19:00 - 20:00
Details:
Increasingly, artificial intelligence (AI) is being used to identify patterns in the huge quantities of health and wellbeing data each of us generates every day. These patterns can help to identify new diagnoses or risk profiles. But they also create new ways of thinking about who we are.
This conversation between bioethicists, philosophers, and data specialists invites you to consider whether you want to outsource the job of deciding ‘what sorts of people we can be’ to algorithms. Tickets are still available. All are welcome!
Presenters:
Dr Emily Postan, Edinburgh Law School
Dr SJ Bennett, University of Durham
Dr Benedetta Catanzariti, School of Social and Political Science
Dr Matthew Cull, Usher Institute
