Competition authorities around the world, including in the UK, are increasingly interested in so-called ‘AI partnerships’, struck up between Big Tech and AI companies. Since 2023, the Competition and Markets Authority has initiated merger investigations into Microsoft/OpenAI, Microsoft/Mistral, Microsoft/Inflection, Amazon/Anthropic and Alphabet/Anthropic.
To discuss these developments, the Edinburgh Competition Law and Economics Network is pleased to welcome Jonathan Ford, who received his LLB from Edinburgh Law School in 2006 and is now an Antitrust & Foreign Investment Partner at Linklaters. Jonathan also holds a Diploma in Legal Practice from Aberdeen University and a postgraduate diploma in competition law from Kings College London. He has a particular specialism in complex UK mergers, and has recently published an overview of AI partnerships and competition law enforcement.
