Date/time

Thu 7 November 2019

Please note this event has been postponed. Please check back for further details on a new date.

This informal event will present some of the work produced by the Political Settlements Research Programme. We’ll give a jargon-free overview of our innovative research into peace agreements and processes, and how these insights are used to bring a socially just future to some of the most divided societies on earth.

  • Sanja Badanjak will discuss the dilemmas associated with elections following conflict.  We tend to assume that holding elections is always a good thing – relying on quantitative data and insights from game theory, the talk will show when elections work, and when they fail.
  • Laura Wise will talk about what happens in peace processes beyond the national stage, how unlikely people broker peace agreements for specific parts of a warzone, and what this means for our understanding of peacemaking practices.
  • Prof Christine Bell, director of PSRP, will explain PeaceTech and describe online platforms for inclusive peacemaking.
  • Kevin McNicholl will talk about his work in the area of women’s inclusion in peace agreements.

This event is part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science.
