Abut the event
Motivated by the rise of employers’ power in labour markets, recent years have seen increased interest the relationship between competition and labour. This event, hosted by the Edinburgh Competition Law and Economics Network, centres on the competition-labour intersection, from both legal and economic perspectives. Dr Andrew McLean, Lecturer of Law & Political Economy at Edinburgh Law School and Director of ECLEN, will chair a panel with the following speakers:
• Professor David Cabrelli. Prof Cabrelli holds a Personal Chair of Labour Law at Edinburgh Law School. His recent work has centred on labour market monopsony from the perspective of corporate and labour law.
• Dr Axel Gottfries. Dr Gottfries is a Reader in Economics at the University of Edinburgh School of Economics. His research interests lie in macroeconomics and labour economics, with a current focus on the economics of non-compete agreements.
• Dr Ioana Marinescu (online). Dr Marinescu is an Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy & Practice. Her research expertise includes wage determination and monopsony power, and antitrust law for the labour market. Between July 2022 and June 2024, Dr Marinescu was the principal economist at the US Department of Justice Antitrust Division.
