Location:

Date/time

Tue 11 June 2024
5:30pm - 7:30pm

Join Edinburgh Law School for an Alumni & Friends Discussion with Professors Jo Shaw, Salvesen Chair of European Institutions and Head of Edinburgh Law School, and Niamh Nic Shuibhne, Professor of European Union Law, to explore the question: ‘Do the fundamentals of EU law still matter?’

Between them, Professors Jo Shaw and Niamh Nic Shuibhne have more than seven decades of experience in the study, teaching, and research of EU law. How they undertake that work has changed significantly over time: in terms of managing how they manage the content of EU law as teachers and researchers; of how they engage with its exponential expansion into new fields; of how they engage with the ever wider range of audiences for EU law; and finally, of course, in terms of managing the implications of now working outside the European Union.

In conversation with each other, Jo and Niamh will reflect on whether studying, teaching, and researching what they call the “fundamentals" of EU law still matters, using examples from their own experience and engaging with the wide range of experience to be offered by an audience of University of Edinburgh alumni working in different fields.

The event will be held in both Edinburgh and Brussels, and the presentations will be followed by a drinks reception.

The discussion will be followed by a drinks reception. We welcome all alumni and friends of Edinburgh Law School, so please do pass along to any colleagues you think might be interested.
