Scholarships and funding

Edinburgh Law School offers a range of scholarships for our on-campus LLM and MSc programmes. The University also offers many scholarships and provides information about additional sources of funding.

This award is open to all applicants who have applied to a taught LLM or MSc programme starting in the 2026-27 academic year at Edinburgh Law School.

Award Amount

Three awards of £5,000 to be used towards tuition fees only.

Eligibility

All applicants who are accepted for admission to any taught LLM or MSc programmes offered by the School (including Online Learning programmes) starting in the 2026-27 academic year.

Award criteria

The award will be made on the basis of academic merit and the strength of a personal statement. Within your personal statement please include:

  • the specific elements of the LLM or MSc programme that attracted you to the University of Edinburgh and why these are meaningful to you; and
  • explain how successful completion of this programme will benefit your career, personal development and / or enable you to contribute to your community/region or country?

Priority will be given to those who have not had the opportunity to study at masters level previously.

Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.

Once you have applied for admission, complete the Edinburgh Law School Scholarship Application Form and send it to pg.law.enquiries@ed.ac.uk

After you have applied you will receive an email notification to confirm receipt of your application form. You will not receive any further communications until the deadline for the scholarship has passed and all the applications have been assessed.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome by the end of June 2026 at the latest.

As such we are delighted to be able to offer a scholarship for applicants to the LLM in European Law for the 2026-27 academic year.

Award amount

One award to cover the full Home (UK) or International/EU tuition fee rate for the 2026-27 academic year (tuition fees only). 

Eligibility

Any applicant who is accepted for admission to the full-time LLM in European Law starting in the 2026-27 academic year.

Please note that you must already have applied to study the LLM in European Law before applying for this scholarship.

One partial scholarship to be allocated to any applicant on the LLM in Comparative Private Law starting in September 2026. This award has been made possible thanks to the generous legacy of Edinburgh Law School alumnus Ewen Cameron and the Edinburgh Legal Education Trust, which was formed in 1996 for the advancement of legal education.

Award amount

The scholarship will offer £10,000 to the successful candidate to be redeemed against tuition fees only.

Eligibility

Any applicant who is accepted for admission to the full-time LLM in Comparative Private Law starting in the 2026-27 academic year.

Please note that you must already have applied to study the LLM in Comparative Private Law before applying for this scholarship.

The award will be made on the basis of academic merit and the strength of a personal statement. Within your personal statement please include:

  • the specific elements of the LLM or MSc programme that attracted you to the University of Edinburgh and why these are meaningful to you; and
  • explain how successful completion of this programme will benefit your career, personal development and / or enable you to contribute to your community/region or country?

The University of Edinburgh offers a 30% reduction in tuition fees for up to 12 DAAD-funded masters students.
