Ewen Cameron Scholarships Awardees 2022-23

The Ewen Cameron Conference Travel and Summer School Scholarships is possible thanks to a generous gift from alumnus, Ewen Cameron. This scholarship supported students to pursue a range of opportunities in the UK and overseas to further their personal or academic development. The recipients of the 2022-23 Ewen Cameron Scholarship were:

The Law School providing me with this academic opportunity has allowed me to surround myself with experienced individuals who majority worked within the human right law sector. It felt like a privilege to represent the university on a global scale and have practical legal theories supported by my colleagues. The summer school has left me hopeful in the international human rights law facet of lawyers.

My experience during the summer school is one which I will cherish forever, having developed my legal knowledge, experience, cultural awareness and had the opportunity to cultivate lifelong friendships with individuals across the globe. I look forward to returning to the University of Salzburg next year for the Alumni networking event which will be extremely beneficial for my career...

Overall, the Summer School has been hugely beneficial. It allowed me to examine private law through a much wider lens, to interact with, and work alongside, leading individuals, and to form life-long friendships and connections within the legal profession. I would encourage any students eligible for the Ewan Cameron Scholarship to apply. It has unlocked so many doors for me, such as allowing me to travel outside of the UK to experience an international education.

The value of this experience did not end in the classroom but continued beyond study hours. I had the opportunity to see and explore the city of Belgrade, not only from a tourist’s point of view, but through the eyes of an academic… This has not only been an academically stimulating 5 days, but also an experience that touched me on a personal level and which drew a direction in my career path.

“The trip to Austria had many benefits, but one notable benefit was that we could experience the culture and social life of the country. The experience was excellent! Whilst on our days off, we explored the city, and was mesmerised by Austria’s architecture and atmosphere. Overall, the time I have spent in Salzburg has broadened my legal thinking and has been a brilliant immersion in Austrian culture.”

The scholarship provided me with an opportunity to get to such a high point in the first place- allowing me to put extra time towards preparation and tournaments where otherwise I may have had to get an extra part-time job to cover the high costs of the tournament. Other highlights of the tournament included learning about and exploring the culture of Bulgaria, debating against the top teams in Europe and being able to see old friends and make new ones from across the continent!
