As winners of the 2022/2023 UK Student Mediation Competition, Edinburgh Law School was honoured to host this year’s event on 26 and 27 January 2024. The competition involved 15 UK universities and we are delighted to announce that the 2023/24 winning institution is Queen’s University Belfast. The Best Individual Mediator was awarded to Eryka Kobelczuk from the University of Glasgow.

Within the institutions, the runner up was the University of Glasgow and the second runner up was Swansea University. Within the Best Mediator awards, the runner up was Chidinma Nwalupue (Swansea University) and the second runner up was Kimberly Fletcher (University of Kent). We want to congratulate and thank all winners and participants for some excellent work.

We would also like to thank all volunteer judges for their time and diligence during this event. Along with scoring the performances, over 40 judges with expertise in mediation skills also provided feedback to the students on their technique and overall work.

In addition to the participants and judges, we would also like to thank our sponsors: Morton Fraser MacRoberts, Addleshaw Goddard, and Thorntons. Their generosity helped create this rewarding event filled with networking and developmental opportunities.

Running since 2008, this competition is designed to help law students understand the value of resolving disputes through mediation, develop their mediation skills and techniques, and to better understand the mediation process in general. We look forward to next year’s competition, which will be hosted by Queen’s University Belfast.
