Tuition fees and funding
Tuition fees for the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice for the 2026-27 academic year are:
- Full-time Home students: £11,594
- Full-time International/EU students: £30,275
- Part-time Home Students: £5,797 (Part-time fees are subject to an annual increase in year 2)
Tuition fees are inclusive of all course materials and books.
The Vans Dunlop Diploma Scholarship awards £1,000 to incoming students (whether full-time or part-time) enrolling on the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice (the Diploma) at the University of Edinburgh Law School. The scholarship is open to continuing and returning University of Edinburgh graduates. One award will be made per academic year.
Scholarship applications will open on 8th July.
Eligibility
The Vans Dunlop Diploma Scholarship is for students enrolling on the Diploma at the University of Edinburgh Law School. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must have completed a qualifying Scots Law LLB or Graduate LLB at the University of Edinburgh within the 3 years prior to undertaking the Diploma.
- Must have received an offer to study the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh in the 2026-27 academic year.
In addition you must meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:
- You are in receipt of the University of Edinburgh’s Access Bursary
- You were eligible for any widening access concessions when you applied to the University of Edinburgh (ie, living in a target postcode area, care experienced, studying at a school on the University’s target school list, refugee, asylum seeker)*
- You are under 25 and fully estranged from your family

Applicants will not be eligible for the Vans Dunlop Diploma Scholarship if:
- The candidate has already been awarded another full or partial scholarship to support their Diploma studies.
- The candidate is due to receive full or partial fee sponsorship from an employer.
Award Criteria
The award will be made on the basis of academic merit and the strength of the scholarship application statement. This will be assessed via consideration of your application for the Diploma and your scholarship application.
Through your scholarship application, please tell us how the scholarship will assist you in making the most of your studies and the wider experiences available at Edinburgh Law School. Candidates’ applications will be carefully reviewed by an awarding committee. The final decision is at the discretion of the committee.

- Must have completed a qualifying Scots Law LLB or Graduate LLB within the 3 years prior to undertaking the Diploma.
- Must have received an offer to study the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh in the 2026-27 academic year.
In addition you must meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:
- You are care experienced
- Your permanent home address is within the lowest quintile in either the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (“SIMD 20”) or Acorn postcode measure (“Acorn 5 or 6”)
- You are under 25 and fully estranged from your family
- You are a refugee / asylum seeker
To check your eligibility for the two postcode criteria above (the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation and Acorn classification), use the postcode lookup tool. We will use the home address where you lived during your last year of school or college.

If you meet eligibility criteria and have secured a place on the Diploma to start in 2026 you may be able to apply through the Students Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for a tuition fee loan towards the cost of your tuition fees.
