About the ELRN


The Empirical Legal Research Network was established in February 2009 and was convened by Professor Lesley McAra. It was then co-convened by Dr Smita Kheria and Dr Shawn Harmon. It is now convened by Dr Gabrielle Watson, Chancellor's Fellow at Edinburgh Law School.

The ELRN:

  • serves as a learning and teaching nexus for those interested in empirical research and the study of law in society;
     
  • facilitates trans-disciplinary research collaboration on topics relating to law in the real world and disseminates the results of such research to the community within and beyond the University of Edinburgh;
     
  • provides a resource of methodological skills and legal expertise which can be drawn on by academics, policy-makers and practitioners; and
     
  • supports and encourages a range of specialist training and knowledge exchange activities.
