Celebrating 75 Years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
MacLaren Stuart Room,
Thu 30 November 2023
10 December 2023 is the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). To mark this anniversary and reflect on the relevance of the UDHR today, the Global Justice Academy will be hosting a celebratory event in the lead up to International Human Rights Day.
As part of this event, we are inviting current students studying International Human Rights Law (or related classes), past LLM in Human Rights graduates and PGR students at the Edinburgh Law School to get involved!
There are three options and you are invited to contribute in one, two or three ways. In all cases, the point of the contribution is to concisely explain why a particular UDHR article is important to you in relation to the past, present and or future. How is or should the article be reflected in the world around you in your life, your work, etc.
Whether you want to contribute to all or one of the opportunities, each contribution must focus on only one of the articles as we plan to go through all 30 articles for each format.
The idea is that everyone comes from a different place and circumstance. The UDHR is 75 but we see its contents in laws across national and international legal systems. We want to celebrate why this foundational human rights instrument is still relevant and important today. The aim is to ensure all 30 articles are covered in all three contribution forms.
The deadline for submitting a contribution is 20 November 2023 at 2 pm. Depending on the number of submissions, we may not be able to include all contributions so there is a slight competitive dimension but we will aim to make all contributions available on the GJA website.
Submit a contribution by completing one of the below forms.
