Living in Edinburgh

The Law School is based in the University of Edinburgh's historic Old College, centrally situated within the city of Edinburgh, and not far from Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street (see Google Maps for our location in Edinburgh). Old College is part of the central University campus, and is very close to the University Library, National Library of Scotland, and the University of Edinburgh's George Square, where many public lectures are given. Old College is located in one of most interesting areas of the city - in the heart of the Old Town, a vibrant area full of activity.

If you are interested in learning more about Edinburgh, you will find many resources online, including the Rough Guide travel guide website. Of the printed guides, the best is probably Edinburgh (Rough Guide Directions) (2nd edn, 2008). Among the seasonal attractions are the Edinburgh Festivals, including the Fringe, International Festival, Film Festival, Book Festival, and Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) celebrations. Travel to and from Edinburgh is usually straightforward. Edinburgh has excellent UK rail links, and the main railway station, Edinburgh Waverley, is just a short walk from the Law School. Edinburgh Airport offers excellent quick and direct air links to London and to Europe.

Accommodation

Edinburgh is able to offer a wide range of accommodation options.

The University of Edinburgh's Accommodation Services website has details of accommodation available for visitors, as well as lots of information about accommodation in Edinburgh and numerous useful links.

Many properties are available for rent in the private sector through letting agencies. A Google search like this or this will reveal a large number of letting agencies offering properties for short-term lease.

Lastly, the 'Small Ads' section of the University of Edinburgh's eBulletin often contains details of flats and houses to let.
