1. If illness or other circumstances have affected my exam performance what should I do?
Speak to your director of studies or the Student Support Officer (
law.sso@ed.ac.uk). A form must be completed and submitted to the exam board.
2. Does the Exam Board require supporting evidence of special circumstances? So far as possible, yes. For illness this means a medical certificate. For a bereavement the University requires a copy of the death certificate or funeral announcement or funeral order of service. For students who are being counselled a letter from the counsellor will assist the Board.
3. What is the deadline for submission of special circumstances?Normally, within two weeks of the end of the exam diet. You will receive an email from the Student Support Officer advising you of the date for the diet.
4. How will I receive my results? They will be posted on MyEd.
5. If I fail an exam, can I have my exam paper re-marked?No. There is only a very limited appeals procedure. See "Appeals".
6. If I fail an examination can I resit it?Yes, but only for Ordinary exams and normally only three times.
7. Do I have to register for resits? No. This is automatic, but there is a fee.
