Why Edinburgh?

Edinburgh is an excellent place at which to study law. The School of Law received a '5' in the last Research Assessment Exercise, and its staff are involved in research across a wide range of areas. The University of Edinburgh has a long and distinguished history, ranks highly in global and European university rankings, an international reputation for high quality research, offers high quality teaching, and has excellent facilities for studying law.

Our building contains three lecture theatres, three computer labs, numerous seminar rooms, and the Law Library and Europa Library, which hold a wide range of legal materials. Students have access to the leading online legal research resources, and the Law Library and lecture theatres offer wireless access to the University network. Throughout the year, it is possible for law students to attend seminars and lectures on the important topics of the day; to take part in social events; and to enjoy the wider intellectual, academic, sporting and social life of the University. Based in the historic Old College, the School of Law enjoys a superb and convenient location in central Edinburgh, close to the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. From the School of Law's site in Old College it is only a few minutes walk to Parliament House, where the highest criminal and civil courts in Scotland sit, and to the local Sheriff and district court. Scotland's Parliament building is also not far away. Edinburgh is a leading legal, political and financial centre within the UK.
