Studying Law in the UK - which degree is right for me?
The LLB
In the United Kingdom law is studied at undergraduate level. This means that students are able to apply to study for a law degree as soon as they finish their high school or college studies. The LLB is a four year undergraduate qualification and is the most common entry route for students wishing to pursue a career in the legal profession.

The Postgraduate LLM
Edinburgh also offers a wide range of postgraduate qualifications for students who wish to broaden their legal education. It is important to note however, that the LLM is an academic and not a professional qualification, and alone does not meet the requirements for entry into the legal profession.
Will I be able to use my law degree in the USA?
LLB degrees gained from a United Kingdom university are recognised in the USA. Each state has different regulations that students must meet before they are able to apply to sit the Bar Exam and you will need to contact the relevant regulatory authority in your state to find out exactly what you will need to do to meet these requirements. Often students will need to sit some further courses or exams.

For students looking to practice in New York, the official information leaflet can be found here.
