Biographical Details
Fred studied Geography at the University of Edinburgh with a particular interest in the planning system and how it interacted with environmental protection policy and the potential for widespread growth of renewable energy. After taking the postgraduate LLB at Edinburgh he trained as a solicitor at Dundas & Wilson CS in both Edinburgh and Glasgow where his training covered employment, litigation, property and banking law.
Since calling to the bar in 2000, Fred’s practice has also benefited from his considerable insight and expertise in local government licensing and the planning system gained through eight years’ public service as a City of Edinburgh Councillor from 1999 to 2007. Fred has extensive experience in the High Court of Judiciary, Criminal Appeal Court, and has appeared in the Court of Session and Sheriff Courts across Scotland. Fred recently took a short break from the Bar in order to pursue his political ambitions but returned to full-time practice at Terra Firma Chambers in June 2010.
