Biographical Details

Fiona Jamieson is a Teaching Fellow in Criminology in the School of Law and co-course organiser of the MSc Criminal Justice and Penal Process module. Her main research interests lie in the sociology of punishment, criminal justice culture, sentencing reform, penal politics and qualitative research methods.

Fiona graduated from Edinburgh University with LLB (Honours) and Diploma in Legal Practice. She is a qualified solicitor (Scotland) and through her careers as a prosecutor and Reporter to the Children’s Panel has extensive knowledge of criminal justice practice and processes. Fiona returned from legal practice in 2007 to study for the MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice in Edinburgh. She is currently a doctoral candidate in the School of Law. Her research draws on biographical narrative accounts of retired sentencers to explore judicial sensibilities and culture in the field of penal practice. This research was awarded an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Studentship.

Fiona has taught on a number of criminology and criminal justice courses at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including Punishment and Society (Honours), Criminal Justice Policy and Practice (Honours) and Crime, Justice and Public Policy (MSc). She is a Guest Lecturer and Tutor on Foundations of Criminology (Ordinary).

Fiona is a member of the Sentencing and Penal Decision-Making Working Group of the European Society of Criminology.
