Member, legal staff, Scottish Law Commission 1971-1994; Commissioner 1995-2000; general editor, Stair Memorial Encyclopaedia since 2000; research interests include the Scots law of property, esp. neighbourhood;obligations (delict, unjustified enrichment); remedies; insolvency; history of Scottish private law doctrines; law reform.
