Courses in International Law

Teaching international law at LLB and LLM level continues to be an important part of the work of members of the Centre.

Undergraduate Teaching

Members of staff from the Scottish Centre for International Law run a first year Ordinary LLB course which takes places in semester one.  This course develops knowledge and understanding of the international legal system and the main institutions which contribute to the development and application of international law.  It also looks at the legal rules, principles and processes which govern key areas of inter-state activity, such as the use of force and dispute settlement.  This course is taken not only by law students, but also by students of international relations and other schools.

Members of staff from the Centre also run advanced LLB courses in international law to be taken by honours students in their third and fourth years.  Presently these courses are:

International Law A: The Individual and International Law

International Law B: Inter-state Conflict and Dispute Settlement

For those with an interest in international law and diplomacy, the University of Edinburgh now offers undergraduate degree programmes allowing you to combine Law and International Relations:
