'New Business Models for the Music Industries: the new role of Copyright in Relevant Markets for music'

LLB Hons, LLM, Advocate (Athens Bar)

Biography

"I see absolutely no point in pretending that it’s not going to happen. I’m fully confident that copyright, for instance, will no longer exist in 10 years, and authorship and intellectual property is in for such a bashing. Music itself is going to become like running water or electricity… So it’s like, just take advantage of these last few years because none of this is ever going to happen again. You’d better be prepared for doing a lot of touring because that’s really the only unique situation that’s going to be left"

David Bowie

 "Touring, Touring is never boring"

The Ramones

"Competition is telling us to follow guidelines and stay right handed, but music comes from the heart lyrics from the head to my hand and I'm left handed"

Raised Fist

'...Has anyone seen the price come down? Okay, well, you know what that means — steal it. Steal away. Steal and steal and steal some more and give it to all your friends and keep on stealin'. Because one way or another these mother****ers will get it through their head that they're ripping people off and that's not right.'"

Trent Reznor - Nine Inch Nails

Starting from the so-called Bowie Theory and assessing competition in a market for music without copyright as a main revenue stream. How are the music industries being currently structured and around which dominant revenue stream? What does this new structure mean for the music market in terms of competition law, and subsequently how can recent relevant mergers be evaluated when the market is yet to defined?
