Practicing EU government: problematisation, mobilisation and legitimation

Instructions to Paper Givers

Our discussions will be organised in five half-day seminars centred upon cross-cutting debates within political sociology and as applied to ‘practicing EU government'. Each seminar will be led by an invited external speaker who will speak to the general theme of the series from their respective disciplinary background. External speakers have up to 45 minutes to present their work, followed by a discussion of around 45 minutes.

This will be followed by three papers from Europa/Edinburgh colleagues which speak more specifically to the sub-theme of the respective session. It is in keeping with the seminar project that these papers might be experimental and/or highly provisional drafts. These presentations will be shorter - 15 minutes maximum - followed by a general discussion of the paper and also how each contribution speaks to the specific line of questioning of the session.

Papers should be circulated in advance (at least one week). The corresponding expectation is that participants will have read papers in advance of the seminars.

Papers should be emailed to the group and also sent to Alison Stirling alison.stirling@ed.ac.uk, who will post them on the seminar website. That section of the website can only be accessed by local participants. Please make sure that your paper is also sent to the External Speaker for that session.
