PhD students from other universities often visit the University of Edinburgh School of Law as part of their research. There are two ways in which this can be done:
Visiting as a member of the public
This enables you to visit most of our academic events, and also to access the university library, including the law library in Old College. Details of how to access the library as a member of the public are available here.
It will not be possible to access legal databases or any other electronic resource to which the University of Edinburgh subscribes. However, if your own institution is a member of the Eduroam network, you may be able to use the university's wi-fi network to access the internet via your own laptop while you are here.
Visiting as a postgraduate research visiting student
Exceptionally, visiting postgraduate students may apply for admission as a postgraduate research visiting student, which carries with it full entitlement to supervision and access to university facilities. Fees will be charged on a pro-rata basis, per whole or part month of student attendance at the University, based on the appropriate full year fee for 12 months (for which, see here). These fees cannot be waived. If you are interested in this option, please email pg.law@ed.ac.uk with full details of your research project and reasons for wishing to study at the University of Edinburgh.
Full admission as a postgraduate student
If you are interested in applying instead for full admission as a postgraduate student at Edinburgh Law School - that is, to study for your entire degree here - please see our Postgraduate Studies pages.
