Professor Joseph Weiler of New York University Law School, who has been a leading authority in EU law for a quarter of a century, delivered the first ever series of MacCormick lectures (in honour of our late colleague Sir Neil MacCormick) at Edinburgh Law School between 23-26 May.

Professor Joseph Weiler of New York University Law School, who has been a leading authority in EU law for a quarter of a century, delivered the first ever series of MacCormick lectures (in honour of our late colleague Sir Neil MacCormick) at Edinburgh Law School between 23-26 May.

The theme of the lecture series was 'A Christian Europe'. In these lectures, Professor Weiler explored the relationship between the tradition, contemporary meaning and symbolism of Christianity across the European continent and the origins and continuing prospects of supranational integration. The lectures, which will be published in due course, were extremely well attended by staff, visiting scholars, undergraduate and postgraduate students and the wider Edinburgh community. Erudite, stimulating and provocative, the lectures were brilliantly delivered and gave rise to lively debate after each session and over the course of the week.
