In July this year a small delegation of academics from Edinburgh Law School undertook an academic visit to Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, South Korea.  The principal purpose of the visit was to take part in an academic programme organized by the SKKU Law School.

The programme, arranged under the Academic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement concluded between Edinburgh Law School and SKKU, took the form of a series of lectures to postgraduate students and a day-long conference on the subject of Legal Exchange and Cooperation between Korea and the EU.

Sungkyunkwan University, formed over 600 years ago, has a long and distinguished history.  Originally founded to promote scholarship in Confucianism, the university's name literally means  'an institution for building a harmonious society of perfected human beings.'  The University has grown rapidly, keeping up with the diverse demands of the advancing country. As part of its Vision 2010+, SKKU aims to increase its links with leading universities around the world.

In December 2010 Edinburgh Law School and SKKU concluded an Academic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement and a number of different events have already taken place to build the relationship between these two distinguished institutions.
