EUDO Citizenship Observatory Present Results at European Parliament

Professor Jo Shaw, along with colleagues from the European University Institute and Maastricht University, presented the results of the work of the EUDO Citizenship Observatory at a Joint Meeting of the Constitutional Affairs and Freedom, Security and Justice Committees of the European Parliament, in the European Parliament, on Wednesday 2 June 2010.

Professor Jo Shaw, along with colleagues from the European University Institute and Maastricht University, presented the results of the work of the EUDO Citizenship Observatory at a Joint Meeting of the Constitutional Affairs and Freedom, Security and Justice Committees of the European Parliament, in the European Parliament, on Wednesday 2 June 2010.

EUDO CITIZENSHIP was represented by co-directors Rainer Bauboeck and Jo Shaw, and by Maarten Vink (Maastricht University).

Jo Shaw spoke on EU citizenship and its links with Member State nationality, taking the Rottmann case as starting point. Rainer Bauboeck discussed the links between Member States citizenship policies and why these raise concerns for other Member States and the European Union. Maarten Vink presented the results of EUDO CITIZENSHIP comparative research on trends in citizenship policies in Europe.

The meeting was chaired by Carlo Casini MEP, Chair of the Constitutional Affairs Committee.

Working with Professor Shaw, Research Fellow Lisa Pilgram has played an integral part in the preparation of both the presentation and the project itself.  After 18 months with the team Ms Pilgram will be leaving to take up the position of Project Manager for the European Research Council project 'Oecumene: Citizenship after Orientalism'.  She will also commence studies for a PhD.
