On 31 March, the University of Vienna's Professor August Reinisch paid a visit to Edinburgh Law School to deliver a special guest lecture. The topic was Umbrella Clauses in International Investment Arbitration.
The lecture took place in the Elder Room in Old College. Students from our varying LLM programmes came to listen, as did some of the students from the undergraduate course on Investment Law.
Professor Reinisch's presentation focussed in particular on the controversial issues regarding the enforceability of contracts concluded by State-owned companies, the admissibility of purely contractual claims and the law applicable to the dispute. The presentation was followed by a Q&A with the students and the staff.
