LLM student wins Aspiring Solicitors Commercial Awareness Competition

Charles Ashie was one of 6 winners, chosen from over 1500 applicants

Edinburgh Law School's Charles Ashie, an LLM student, was part of a team of six students who beat of 1,500 applicants to be crowned winners of the Aspiring Solicitors Commercial Awareness Competition.

Charles commented on the experience:

"Aspiring Solicitors is an organisation with a commitment to increasing diversity in the legal profession. They provide employability advice through mock interviews, CV advice, open days at law firms all with the goal to level the playing field for all underrepresented minorities with aspirations to enter the legal profession.

The Aspiring Solicitors Commercial Awareness Competition provided me with the confidence to believe that I can stand out in the legal profession. Each round was unique with providing me with various essential skills such as teamwork, public speaking and forming arguments in support or against commercial issues.

Huge thanks to Coran Darling and Anastasia Frolova for the countless hours spent preparing for the various rounds to get to the final. Thanks also to team members Arjun Patel, Elisabeth Fapuro, Richard Hurstell and Will Crutchley for an outstanding performance in the final, and congratulations to Sarah Johnson as the outstanding individual performer.

Thanks to Chris White, James Hutchens and the team at Aspiring Solicitors for organising the competition and their inspirational commitment to helping underrepresented minorities in their first steps into the legal profession.

Finally, thanks also to the partners, graduate recruitment, associates and trainees at Barclays, Clifford Chance, Dechert LLP, Mayer Brown, TLT LLP, Travers Smith, BPP and LexisNexis for their part in grilling us, motivating us and ultimately sponsoring a such life changing competition."

Congratulations to Charles on a stunning victory!
