James Harrison acts as legal adviser to the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe

Edinburgh Law School's James Harrison acted as legal adviser to the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe in a recent arbitration at the Peace Palace, in The Hague.

The Arbitral Tribunal had been constituted to decide claims brought by the Republic of Malta against the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe under Article 287 and Annex VII to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. The dispute concerns the arrest of a Maltese flagged vessel - Duzgit Integrity - in the waters of São Tomé and Príncipe.

Dr Harrison was invited to participate in the legal team of São Tomé and Príncipe because of his expertise in the international law of the sea.
