Edinburgh Law School hosts a European Conference on reducing imprisonment

On 8 and 9 June 2017, Edinburgh Law School hosted a successful European Conference on the theme 'Reducing the Use of Imprisonment'. 

The conference brought together 80 participants from across Europe, with one delegate coming from Texas. All of the presentations came from members of the Sentencing and Penal Decision-Making Working Group of the European Society of Criminology. Delegates included senior policy officials, members of the judiciary and practitioners from the third sector.

Conference co-organiser Dr Fiona Jamieson, presented a paper entitled 'Reducing the Use of Imprisonment: Why Judicial Culture Matters'. Other speakers included Lord Justice Clerk Lady Dorian and Professor Andrew Coyle, University of London.
